No Garden Tours on March 3

Well, actually there will be a tour, but it’s a special event benefitting The Villagers, a south Florida organization dedicated to the restoration and preservation of historic properties in the Miami area. Each year the group holds a “garden tour” fundraiser, and we are thrilled and honored to be on this year’s list of featured gardens. Their event is March 3, and we’re suspending our garden tours that day in order to help The Villagers’ event. Tickets will be available from their website beginning in February, and we’ll have more information about the event then.

Now Showing

Oncidium Twinkle

The cool weather slowed down some of the tropicals, unfortunately, but they are coming back very nicely. It wasn’t cold enough to do any serious damage (for which thanks!), but many of the plants in the garden prefer much warmer conditions. But we always have interesting, beautiful plants and orchids blooming in the garden. The Onc. Twinkles are bursting with buds and flowers now, several of our specimen V. lamellatas are full of very fragrant flowers, and we still have a few flowers on the Angraecum giryamae ‘Breckinridge’.

The Indian clock vine (Thunbergia mysorensis), has more flower stems developing and we expect a spectacular display very soon. The Clerodendrum smithianum (“light bulb” plant) is blooming like crazy, too, with cascades of beautiful white flowers.

You can see all of this, and lots more, on one of our free weekend garden tours. Every Saturday and Sunday*, weather permitting, we escort a walking tour of Bob’s and Mike’s private garden at 11am and 3pm. No reservation necessary, just be here a few minutes before start-time. The tour runs about an hour, we hope you can join us for it some time soon. It’s a garden, it changes with the seasons, so there’s always something new going on. We can arrange garden tours for groups, too, please contact us. (*note the March 3 event, above, no garden tours on that date)

Collector’s Items

We recently added a new category in our online catalog, the “Crownfox Collection”, where we offer some very special orchid plants. These are one-of-a-kind, selected, limited edition or very rare orchids for the connoisseur, and response has been terrific. Check it out next time you visit the catalog!

Africa Tour Filling Fast!

If you’re thinking about joining our tour to Kenya in October, send us your reservation soon, please. This tour is filling up very fast, and we only have a few double-occupancy rooms left.

A Note About Winter Shipping

At this time of year we may hold your order if we believe the weather conditions are unsuitable for standard shipping. We do monitor the weather daily, and we’ll ship as soon as we think it’s safe to do so. We appreciate your patience during weather-related delays. Expedited (overnight) shipping may be an option, at an additional charge. We do not use “heat packs”. Conditions here in south Florida are warm; if we put a heat pack in the box before shipping the plants will be cooked long before the box gets to its destination.
