Shipments to Hawaii

We get inquiries about this frequently, particularly from folks who want to sent gifts to friends in Hawaii. In fact we get enough inquiries about it that we included information in our “Frequently Asked Questions” (FAQ). But for those of you who haven’t visited our FAQ page, here’s a summary. We can and do ship orchids to Hawaii, but the State of Hawaii has some restrictions on those shipments. First, the recipient must have an import permit from the State of Hawaii, and we have to have a copy of that permit. Then, the shipment must be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate (“phyto” for short) – this is an inspection certificate from the Sate of Florida agricultural authorities that the plants are free of certain pests and diseases. No getting around this, we have to include a phyto with the shipment. The cost of this inspection and certificate is currently $75.00, which we have to add to the order total. That’s the reason for the “handling fee” on the order. We make no money on this charge, we pass the State of Florida’s fee on to the order. So we are very happy to take plant orders for Hawaii, but we can’t ship them without the import permit and the phyto. These are requirements imposed by the State of Hawaii.

Orchid Care Class!

We’re pleased to announce that on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 1-3pm, Mike will be teaching our “General Orchid Culture” class. This is a one-time offering (our regular class schedule will begin in January, we’ll announce details of that when the schedule is finalized), and Mike will address issues for getting your orchids back in shape after the storm, and cover the basics of success with the most commonly cultivated orchids. The class fee is $20 per person, and includes an orchid plant to take home.

Contact the nursery to register for this class. Registration deadline is Friday, Nov. 3, 1pm, so we have time to prepare.

New Catalog Section

We’ve added a new section to our online catalog, the “Crownfox Collection”. Here we’ll highlight and offer special plants – rare, hard-to-find, limited quantities, even selected one-of-a-kind orchids. Check that section regularly because it will be changing often as new things come in and go out.

Garden Tours Suspended

Our beloved garden took a hit in Hurricane Irma, so while we clean up the mess, we’re temporarily suspending garden tours. We plan to resume them in November. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

About Contacting Us…

If your email service allows you to block emails from “unknown” senders, please be sure our email addresses are listed in your “known sender” list. It’s very frustrating when we reply to messages and the replies are undeliverable!

Our contact page lists our email addresses. We’ll reprise them here with reminders. Note that there is a space between the mailbox and the “@” character – this reduces the nuisance of “spam” bots that harvest email addresses from websites and then bomb the mailboxes with the most horriendous junk and spam email. So delete the space when you copy the addresses.

If your inquiry is about an order (future or existing), availability of plants, etc., contact our sales desk: sales If you’re inquiring about our escorted international tours, (not garden tours), use tours For general inquiries, if you haven’t found what you’re looking for here in the site, use info For operating hours, maps and directions, answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs), check out the appropriate information pages here on the website.
