Regular visitors to the nursery know that we have a lot of critters, mostly birds, around the property. We’re pleased to introduce some new faces to everyone. First is Quinn, a gorgeous Harlequin macaw (hence her name). Harlequins are hybrids of greenwing and blue-and-gold macaws. Mom and dad are in the front garden aviary. We raised Quinn by hand, from the time she looked like a plucked Cornish hen, so she’d be comfortable with people. She spends most of her days in our inside showroom, so be sure to say hello to her when you come in.
Our other newcomers are Mambo and Samba, a brother-sister pair of tabby kittens who showed up recently. They’re full of mischief (what kittens aren’t?) and spend their days romping in the outside showroom and greenhouses. For these photos we managed to catch them resting, taking a break from kitten-stuff in the heat of the afternoon. It’s been a while – too long, really – since we had a cat or two, so these little ones are going to be spoiled rotten before we know it. They’re tough to tell apart, unless you look at their front paws. Mambo has just a wee bit of white on the very tips of his toes, Samba has little white gloves. Otherwise, they could be twins.
We get a lot of inquiries about renting the front garden area for events. You can download our FAQ about the rentals here. The PDF includes basic facility information, and how to contact our Events Manager. (You’ll need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view this file)
