Lucy and Irina

Regular visitors know that we have a lot of interesting birds and animals in the garden and nursery. This past week, we welcomed Lucy, a gorgeous new turtle, to the pond. Lucy is a red-eared slider, who outgrew her former home as a pet in New Jersey. Her family recently moved to South Florida and wanted to give her a better environment, so she has moved in with our other resident turtles. Here’s adoptive Mom Irina with her, just before adoptive Dad Irv released Lucy into the water.

You can see Lucy, and all of the other critters on one of our free weekend garden tours. Every weekend, weather permitting, we escort walking tours of Bob’s and Mike’s private garden at 11am and 3pm, Saturdays and Sundays. This is a gorgeous tropical garden, lush with rare plants, orchids in the trees, fantastic birds and lots more. The tour takes about 45-60 minutes. No reservation is necessary, just please be here a few minutes before start-time. Meet your guide at the bridge. Contact us for tours for groups.

Annual Holiday Open House and Sale!

This is our biggest sale of the year, so plan to come on down to Homestead on the weekend of Dec. 9-11, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 9am to 5pm daily! Everything is going to be on sale (and we mean everything – well, not gift cards, but everything else!), so don’t miss this chance to get incredible bargains on blooming plants, supplies, new arrivals, garden décor, gifts and more. Sale starts Friday, Dec. 9 and runs through the weekend. Of course we’ll also be having garden tours on Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting (and the forecast looks pretty good!) at 11am and 3pm.

Holiday Notes

Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah and warmest wishes for a joyous holiday season! We’ll be closed on Christmas Day, Sunday, Dec. 25 and New Year’s Day, Sunday, Jan. 1. We will be open regular hours Dec. 27-30 and Jan. 3-8. (reminder: we’re always closed on Mondays)

A Note About Winter Shipping

At this time of year we may hold your order if we believe the weather conditions are unsuitable for standard shipping. We do monitor the weather daily, and we’ll ship as soon as we think it’s safe to do so. We appreciate your patience during weather-related delays. Expedited (overnight) shipping may be an option, at an additional charge. We do not use “heat packs”. Conditions here in south Florida are warm; if we put a heat pack in the box before shipping the plants will be cooked long before the box gets to its destination.
